Drawing From Life

Waiting At The Station (Caulfield)

I was reading someones blog a month or so back and they mentioned the book Drawing From Life: The Journal as Art. I wish I could remember who it was, but I saw the book and went into a bit of a frenzy and ended up at Amazon buying it before I could remember who wrote about it in their blog. The book arrived a few days ago and I was reading through it the other night. My favourite stories so far is one about the 1000 journals project and Renato Umali's tracking system. I don't know why, but the idea of tracking things in your life then looking at the information on graphs excites me quite a bit. What I lack is the discipline to do this and would give myself 2 days and after that I would just stop.

Print Ideas

Looking inside sketchbooks is one of my most favourite things, I find the art a lot more interesting when it isn't refined and every idea and thought is in there. Have a look at Lara's blog for some lovely drawings from her sketchbook in her current post. I photographed a few drawings in my current sketchbook and put some up on Flickr with a couple in this post. My sketchbooks are a bit of a mess, lots of different ideas and not used as much as I would like.

Ah the humble art of scetching...
I haven't drawn in a while. I keep an emotional diary through drawing pictures. I allocate one page per day and then I try to visually represent what I am feeling.
I tried to keep a drawing journal of ideas for things that I could make but that didn't last long...
I normally take the fabric and then just go from there.
I like knitting...
Every year I knit one scarf as a present to a random stranger...
If it wasn't for shipping costs I would have liked to knit you a scarf.

I stink at sketching... well I think so anyway. It's just so far removed from my final work. But really, I couldn't reach the end without the humble beginning. I like the idea of showing them off and being proud of the skill! Nice work.

that book is fantastic isn't it! I used it a lot for my MFA. I've always prefered sketchbooks to final pieces, maybe thats why my final pieces always look so sketchy?!

I have the 1000journals book if you'd like to see it, I'll bring it on sat if I remember.

I kept a drawing diary from when I left Ireland 2 1/2 years ago until about last month. I drew what i did everyday. although most of the time i had to catch up week by week. have you ever tried to remember what you did everyday last week, it's really difficult!
